Xavier College Preparatory Cited in New Book for Exceptional Leadership Based on National Study of Twelve Christian Schools in the United States

In his newly released book, Learning from the Best: Growing Greatness in the Christian School, Dr. Gene Frost compared twelve nationally recognized Christian high schools throughout the nation against business author Jim Collins’ classical framework of why some companies achieve greatness. Xavier College Preparatory, an all-girls Catholic high school established in 1943 in Phoenix, Arizona is cited for its Level 5 Leadership, a Collins’ Good-to-Great principle.

Among the study’s findings, high levels of communication, community, and consistency from the school’s Principal, Vice Principal, staff, students, teachers, and inclusive volunteer structures are characteristics that shape Xavier and significantly contribute to its being classified as a Level 5 Leadership best practice model.

Sister Joan Fitzgerald, Xavier’s Principal of 33 years, notes that in addition to creating activities for every student, Xavier has been able to effectively engage its current parents, past parents, alumnae, and community members in its mission.

Xavier is twice recognized as a U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and as a national “Top 20 in Academics” in 2005 and 2006 by the Catholic High School Honor Roll. The Arizona Interscholastic Association awarded Xavier its prestigious Blue Cup Award (2006) for excellence in scholastics, athletics and activities. All Xavier graduates attend post-secondary institutions; members of the Class of 2007 were accepted at 181 colleges and universities.
