Katie Allare Named NHSGCA GIRLS GOLF PLAYER OF THE YEAR

XAVIER COLLEGE PREP GRAD NAMED NHSGCA GIRLS GOLF PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Xavier College Preparatory is pleased to announce that 2008 graduate Katie Allare has been named the National High School Golf Coaches Association Girls Golf Player of the Year. Allare, along with fellow Xavier grads Cheyenne Woods and Margarita Ramos and Xavier sophomore Kaira Martin, were named to the 2008 NHSGCA Girls All-American Team.

Allare led Xavier to win its 26th 5A Division 1 State Golf Championship last year. She finished 13th in the 2007 and 2008 state championships and had a scoring average of 75. An outstanding student, Allare was a four-time Arizona Interscholastic Association scholar athlete. Her extra-curricular activities included National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Student Ambassador and Key Club. She volunteered at golf clinics in her community and helped organize the collection of 35,000 cans of food for the St. Vincent DePaul Dining Room. Allare is currently playing golf at the University of Notre Dame.

“Xavier is so proud of Katie, both on the golf course and in the classroom,” said Sister Lynn Winsor, BVM, CMAA, Vice Principal for Activities and Athletics and golf coach. “Her academic achievement, service to the community and dedication as a player serves as an example for other student athletes.”

The NHSGCA Awards are selected by section representatives of the National High School Golf Coaches Association. The awards are based on playing ability, academic performance, and involvement in community service and other extra-curricular activities.
